That's a shame, I was just about to pot the reds and screw back for the yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black.

I haven't heard the Dangermouse record, but I agree, that Crazy record has been seriously overplayed.

Here's another one for the dodgy but listenable archive - Paula Abdul - Opposites Attract

Applying for jobs - Covering Letters?
S

Okay, this may put a slightly different slant on things. What I described is the etiquette used for applying for graduate jobs in the commercial world. I suspect that this differs a bit in the world of academia where I'm guessing a bit more detail is required in the initial application.

…Where he opened the back door to let in the TV show director Donald Quixote. Donkey expressed concern that Thomas might now know that he was the star of a reality TV show. They needed a plan to convince Thomas that his life was real....

Years ago, I did the whole "graduate job" application thing. The careers office gave us seminars on how to prepare the different sorts of applications from the overly long and arduous blue chip application forms to speculative applications and their covering letters.

In the case of explaining your experience, don't go too mad on detail - the objective is to bait them so that they are tempted into giving you an interview to find out more (so keep some things back). Indeed, it is possible to say too much in a letter/CV. Only at the interview do you provide the greater detail.

Your opinion about the contents and length of a "short report"....
S

Not sure, but the term "report" would lead me to think that this needs to written in full academic prose. Presumably it will be an overview of what you've done, found out and where the project is going next. But I haven't got the PhD experience to offer solid advice.

Yes, he is right. The covering letter is where you sell your strengths and motivations for applying for the job. So this needs to be 1-2 pages, but no more.

Thomas kept falling and falling, further into the blackness and seemingly disappeared into oblivion. Then, he hit the bottom and realised he'd landed in the middle of an ITV reality TV show.....

Sue - some interesting songs there. Sledgehammer was Peter Gabriel and the died in your arms song was the Cutting Crew. What's your favourite Backstreet boys song? Worryingly, I thought some of their records were okay, particularly I Want It That Way and Larger Than Life, the Backstreet's back song was okay. How sad am I?

Waterbaby - Tiffany, that record is legendary, if not just for the dance she used to do for the musical bit. Didn't she marry some bloke from Cannock (near Stafford) and is now living there?

Pea - Bonita Appledum. Only doiscovered this a few years ago despite it being 16 years ago. Catchy tune which I think samples an old Carly Simon record. Chas & Dave? Presumably you have Snooker Loopy?

Belinda Carlisle - Fancied her when I was 14 although in them days she was 28 which I thought was really old! Anyone noticed the similarity between Heaven Is A Place and Livin' On A Prayer?

Hopefully, this doesn't involve me losing more fur. Can I watch instead?

I think Lamb might well feel a tad jealous. After the last few weeks where my entire postgradforum diet has consisted of a million-and-one things you can do with lamb, I now have to think of pork to. I'll just have to make some space in the mint sauce cupboard for some apple sauce.
