Katq, this needn't be a problem. If you can quickly identify your weaknesses you should be able to attend some of the Masters or Undergrad classes to learn what you need to know to equip you for different parts of the PhD.

In years to come, many people will ask who your supervisor was and who appraised your thesis. On that basis, it makes sense to try to get a supervisor who is well known in the field. So ditto earlier remarks - supervisor first, uni second.

I think it depends on how specific the hypotheses are (and therefore likely amount of work required to accept/reject each one). Generally speaking, your hypotheses need to be very explicit and very tangible so that you will get a clear result. I write this from the science camp, the soc sci members may have different opinions.

Suffice to say, if you have general hypotheses you asking for trouble insofar as there is likely to be one heck of alot of work. So try to break them down to the lowest possible scale and then you can decide how many you need to address your research question(s).

If you're intending in-depth interviews, you ought to be aiming for around one hour, otherwise you won't get the depth necessary. I assume you have a discussion guide to work from which can be used to fill one hour.

It's probably just the time of year. It's hot, everyone else seems to be on holiday and you're no doubt thinking about yours. If you're anything like me, you need the dark nights to set in to get the work ethic going!
