You reckon?

Why are you doing a PhD?

Though I do agree with Point 4...

Why are you doing a PhD?

I must slightly disagree, my social life has never been better, well in my first and second year at least I was having more fun than at any time during my undergraduates day. And I had (a little bit) more money to do it with. Of course this was coupled with lots of hard work. I'll admit that existing relationships can suffer (mine did), but its the same as when you go to University for the first time, and your childhood sweetheart back at home cheats on you within 2 weeks. And I know a number of relationships that started during a PhD and are going from strength to strength.

My nutrition was even worse when I was working because I didn't have any time, and my landlord won't let me have pets anyway. Despite being right at the end, I've never asked myself why I'm doing this, maybe I'm lucky. So, lets not be so negative! 8-)

Apparently there is a facebook application that reverts it back to the old one. A couple of my friends have downloaded it.

Any help?

This brings up a couple of interesting questions:

* Did your supervisors know when you started that you would need access to this database? Because if so, then thats not very good planning on their part - issues of access and cost should have been written into any funding proposal (if there was one).

* What are University rules on supplying data to somebody else outside the University?

* How would you explain in your thesis how you got hold of it?

Luckily, you have some very nice people on this forum who are always happy to help :-) . My office mate always emails the author/organisation if they can't get hold of something, and usually they go above and beyond what they asked (e.g. send hard cover books for free!) or offer substantially reduced rates. So that might be worth trying if you get stuck again in the future; I guess that most people are just happy to know that somebody actually wants to use their stuff ;-)
