Yep, I have the same wireless problems with Vista. You can be standing right next to it and it won't pick it up.

My only advice is don't buy a Fujitsu-Siemens - notorious for hard disk and motherboard failures, and they have a dodgy warranty policy too. I still reckon you can't beat a good laptop - I built one pretty cheaply about 8 years ago and it is the most reliable out of all the computers I use...but working on it on a long train journey is a lot of hassle I will admit.

Hey, lets not be so formal and drop the 'The' - just call me coastman, we're all friends here... ;-)

I wouldn't worry a huge amount about your literature review structure, as I found it changed dramatically by the time I went to revise it for my thesis write up. This is because your knowledge increases vastly through time (during your first Lit. Review you don't really know what's important and what's not?), and you pick up the skills to 'join the dots'. I found I only really knew where I was heading in my third year.

I think if it covers the main areas, and starts to construct an argument pointing to your work then that will be OK?

Hope that's of some help.

Better project or better uni?
T

The project is very important, but so are facilities. Do they have the computer spec and software you need if you're doing hardcore modelling? In particular, do they have somebody in the Department you can turn to who has knowledge on the process if you get stuck? What is the online journal access like? What about field equipment? And don't take it for granted that the top Universities have all this, my experience is that it is inversely proportional!

Interesting Statistics

My previous post was 1066 (The Battle of Hastings), and according to the box by the side of the post I joined on the 10th of May 2006, at 15:15:51. Its not as good as 15:15:15, but its almost there.

Anyone else got some good stats? Yes I am that bored.

MD and PhD?
T

My University won't let you submit until a minimum of 2.5 years, so to do it in 2 years would be impossible where I am. Also, even if you're just linking existing data to theories, I still think 2 years would be unacheivable. It takes you ages to get up to speed in an area (even if you've worked in it previously, but at a lower level) and then something is bound to go wrong, whether your lab experiment blows up or somebody publishes a book on your obscure area of late medieval history in Cornwall. Then the write up, for me at least is taking ages.

So yep, he is a twit :p
