btw, manda, you better give a maximum time to handle this; say, if the conversation with that girl doesnot go well within 1 month, contact higher authority; sometimes, you need to "cherish" your own time..

hey, manda, stand up and be strong! you will go through the difficulties, and sometimes phd is not only about academic achievements, but also maturing mentally and psychologically. I am within this process, so sometimes can be confused as well; but it seems it is simpler to see the right move in other people's stories and reflect on myself.

i think you should. normally when I address a particular problem, if my supervisor(s) have some contacts, he will happily tell me. I don't think it is good for some people to be so uptight that thinks asking for contact is hopeless..

i find this is a justified post of thread; I didnot see his other thread in the forum, probably it is in other subforum. I think it is not appropriate to ask someone from doing something he obviously has the right to do; I even as a reader feel affended, so if someone doesnot want to read some thread, simply ignore it!

hmm, theoretically yes, you can expect your supervisor to change. but seems like she is not professional yet at all; do you want to run the risk of a "torturing" PhD with her? it will definitely help when you get several supervisors.

a good supervisor should "motivate" the student in a way that the student feels "guilty" not to work hard, and energetic to work as well. Blaming faults on the student is absolutely the most stupid thing a supervisor can ever do..

actualy some supervisors only take their belief as true; my previous supervisor even "spied" on my houring hours and insisted "sitting in office is better for cooperation".. what can you do?? finally I quit; seriously, some people are so obsessive of their own thoughts..

hmm, fist thing first: relax! there are millions of things going on everyday around you, so just focus on the most important things. I tend to find sometimes people behave strangely or over-react, I just give them some time to cool down first; if they keep on doing that, they may not be good acquaintances for you..
