i think the key point here is that you are mentally depressed by the attitude from your supervisor. First of all, don't overwork! you are already on the edge of break-down, it doesnot help to work overtime. Just treat it calmly with a scientific attitude; a lot of experiments go wrong for a long time, that's research. If your supervisor can't see this, its his problem. and it is absolutely not worth it if you are stuck in such working environment no matter how good the project is.

hmm, then I think it is fine.. human beings at our age, healthy and energetic and full of sexual tension.., I wouldnot bother much about that. but it is an issue dating your mentor, always tricky romance with your colleague

why not phone?.. I only use text for non-important people. and if you want to invite someone to hang out, it literally SOUNDS better..

i always do sports as a fantastic way to relieve tension and keep fit.. and meet people. do some team sport, it will be great fun! volleybal, double tennis, basketball.. so you will have great body and less stress I will die of pressure if I don't do sport for long..

hehe, sometimes, the "x" may be wondering if she likes you herself too.. it is kind of hide-and-seek game; the only thing is that you may not know where you are now as well. I am going through this right now, but luckily not one from my work. i think the good strategy is to take it slowly and first become friends..

hmm, I feel the most thing is are you motivated to do the research yourself? I don't just think low of someone's ability just because he made mistakes during a presentation. I really like someone who is passionate about the work and is willing to dig deeper into the work.so if yourself is really interested in the work, show them by taking to them initiatively about your ideas, some issues in the previous methods, etc.. to show that you really are into this.

The question of favoritism.. that's another question. better address the first issue first, and see how it goes in, say, a month of time.
