Overlap between lit review and mini-lit reviews in data chapters?
T

I'm also using the two terms interchangeably. I wouldn't say I have much critique in my intro though - it's more of a general background that leads into my thesis, and then in each chapter is the specific detail required to understand the background and significance of the data collected.

I think if all your chapters are interrelated, then it's fine to have a long main intro and then short ones for each chapter. My chapters are very separate so the opposite works for me.

Is having two masters degree good or bad for PhD admission?

Won't make much difference

Struggling with the simple stuff...
T

Wrong analyses in results and omissions from methods are common, so I wouldn't worry about that. It's part of the refining process.

Consistency though is a bigger issue, mainly because I can't understand how this happens! Can you not double check effectively? If you can't, then could you ask another student to do this for you? Like you said, it's the small stuff that people often don't mind helping with.

What are you looking for a PhD? MSc? Job? We are a UK forum so not sure what 3.1/4 CGPA is equivalent to.

Online PhD worth it? ULeicester -from an employer perspective

I'd say online PhDs aren't worth it... I've never heard of anyone with one

Is it possible a Phd in my case?
T

1. funded parttime PhDs are less likely but possible
2. you don't need a masters to do a PhD anyway
3. It might be, but then you have the other ones so might be ok
4. It will probably help a lot
5. search findaphd.com and apply or contact institutions directly

Decision turnaround this late in the game

It's usually 1 day to 2 weeks to hear about a decision.

No feedback - only 5 days left to submit

He knows how close you are to the deadline so I very much doubt he is going to make substantial changes, so I really wouldn't worry. I would just wait for a bit longer.

Quote From Caro:
Oh and ToL I meant to ask if your pages were double spaced when you counted pages? My lit review is 23 pages single spaced...

It's 1.5 spaced, 7000 words, which is quite short! It's because I put so much information in the intro of the other chapters. Overall my thesis is 70,000 words.

I've never heard that you can't put different references in chapter intros from that in main intro, but that's probably a difference between science and humanities.

I wouldn't repeat it. Basically I introduced the broader topic in the introduction, and then anything relevant to each chapter I put in the intro for that chapter. This makes my intro about 20 pages and then 5 - 10 pages for each chapter intro.

Quit PhD
T

There's no danger of legal action Shack. Your advisor will be disappointed, but nothing more. If you really want to quit I would tell them and see how they can help.

But you're 99% done, it would be such a shame to quit now.

Applying for a Job when you know the chair of the search committee
T

I think contact them and say you are applying. It can't do any harm, unless you didn't have a good relationship with them of course, in which case you better hope they don't remember you!

Individual or structured

I guess you mean pure research verses compulsory classes?

UK is research only so takes 3-4 years. For science PhDs, there may be compulsory classes depending upon the university you are in, but it's only for about 2 hours per week and it's not graded. If you are on a Doctoral Training Program PhD or equivalent, you would have one year of classes that you must pass in order to proceed and 2 rotational lab projects before you start your actual PhD work in the second year. You still have to complete within 4 years total.

Dissertation writing, how many drafts?

Many science PhDs are 25 when they graduate...
