How often do you refresh your email?
T

I keep mine open at the top of the screen so I can see it instantly :) I think it updates automatically every minute

Phd moms (and everyone else)...need some advice!
T

Are you in the UK? What's your subject?

You should think of a PhD as fulltime, so at least 40 hours a week, but like Satchi says, this depends on the person and how productive they are.

If you are in the UK you will have four years max to complete your PhD. Most students take 3.5 to 4 years. It's rare to complete in three, but not impossible.

TA nonsense - How do you manage unpredictability and anxiety when working for someone else??
T

I just let it ride... I know I'm not going to be the best TA with little information provided, so I try to find the information and if I can't, then I just do my best to appear confident and knowledgeable, even if I'm not. If a student asks me a questions I can't answer, I tell them I will find out and get back to them.

Please help me by suggesting good sources to write the methodology chapter please?
T

What field are you in? Can look at other people's theses? Mine is a lab-based biology thesis so I have a feeling my methods chapter is very different to yours

Failed PhD
T

I can't offer any advice I'm afraid, just some sympathy. What a horrible situation. What has your supervisor said?

Self funded PhD place, but no funding.
T

You can apply for grants and funding, but you do need to be good at form filling because if you are not you won't get the grant. Selling yourself and your research is important

MPA from Exeter, Birmingham or Portsmouth
T

I don't know which is better for your course, but Exeter and Birmingham are very good unis.

Regarding fitting in, there are loads of Africans in Birmingham and not so many in the other cities, but I'm sure you will find friends where ever you go as people don't really care much about what ethnicity you are as long as you are nice and they feel you are part of their team.

Thesis amended, now waiting for the examiner's decision??
T

Three months is more than enough, IMO. Did you mark on the text where you had made amendments etc to make it easier for them to check? If so, then the corrections shouldn't take more than a day to check I would think!

Advice on what to expect when doing a MA?
T

I found my masters to be pretty much the same as undergrad: lectures, practical classes and writing essays, dissertation etc. I guess they expected higher standards and that was about the only difference.

Confused after PhD
T

I think you need to be a little more confident within yourself. You don't need to have all the requirements when applying for jobs. Sometimes it's a good idea to go for it and see what happens. Think of all the other skills you have learnt in your PhD that will help you in these other jobs - I'm sure there are loads.

Thesis amended, now waiting for the examiner's decision??
T

I think it's an indefinite period of time... but why not chase them up directly, or via your supervisor?

where can i find a masters that accepts cima
T

I don't think they will, because CIMA is professional qualification, not an academic one. You need a degree as well.

help for research proposal

What help do you require exactly? Try to google examples of proposals.

Invitation to review a paper
T

When you submit papers you can choose the reviews and sometimes the journal will use these reviewers and sometimes they don't. You have no way of knowing. It sounds likely the professor named you as a reviewer.

I don't think it's usual to mention articles that you have reviewed on a CV. At least not biology anyway.
