So, an update... I got the teaching job! Really excited and happy! Also shows the importance of perseverance in the academic job hunt. It's only temporary but I'm hopeful it will be renewed next year.

They didn't care about the fact that I have just started a non-academic job and will be handing my notice in after only 3 weeks...

And you were right about the cross-talk IntoTheSpiral, one of the interviewers asked me "didn't you apply for xxx job in xxx department a few months ago?" And then I remembered his wife worked there! haha

My abstract rules were also 300 words on one page.. but I did 500 on one page and no one noticed ;)

I believe your stipend is always tax free regardless of other earnings because it is not classed as income.

Is it taught or research? My taught masters was very similar to undergrad, in terms of both workload and difficulty.

Why do you want to do a second PhD? What is your ultimate career goal?

I think if you have a certain research background, then this is helpful even if your PhD isn't exactly in psychology. I would say apply to jobs you want anyway - you never know, you might get lucky.

Yes this is a common problem. The money gets kept by the supervisor to use in the next PhD project... If you really want to use your funding, then you have to clearly state your case i.e. how much you've used and what you need the money for and what the predicted outcomes will be. If the money is still not forthcoming, then you can check your university policies and speak to the head of the graduate school.

Of course it might support your application if you have additional qualifications in a subject, but I think they will be assessing other qualities as well. If you don't appear to fit with their ethos or if you can't evidence good teaching abilities, I doubt extra qualifications will make any difference.

Once you have evidenced you have the ability to learn (ie one masters), it's assumed you can learn any other subject you need to know.
