What would you do? (PhD admissions)
T

A: nice to already know you get on with your supervisor and have friends there - it's half the battle.

Plus it's higher ranking, not sure what B has going for it except maybe a change?

PhD after MPhil
T

It depends on the subject area but in general PhDs by distance learning are quite rare.

You can build upon a MPhil thesis, but you can't use parts of it for a PhD.

Having an MPhil makes no difference to the length of a PhD - they are still 3-4 years.

Think this just personal choice if your institute has no guidelines.

I like to justify with no indent.

Yes that's what I use - I also hate the outlook program!

Seems unlikely, but you will have to ask the institution.

Phd scholarship

There are some PhDs that are competitively funded - say there are 20 projects that conduct 20 interview rounds and select 20 people to do the projects, but then only 10 get funded. Sounds like yours is one of those.

Citing your own paper or not within the thesis?

Hi Hugh,

I think it's personal choice. I just cited my chapters and didn't mention my paper in the text. I just included the paper in an appendix at the end.

Quote From AOE26:
That's actually a funny typo!!! I wouldn't worry.. as Thesisfun says it's just a mistake. I would have replied something like "I will keep the crying to a minimum!!"

This thread made me chuckle!

Advice...Supervisors...
T

I think this is quite normal. You will often find that academics tell you one thing one week and something totally different the next. You are going to have to learn to get on with both of your supervisors and accept that your opinions may differ. It's best just to do what they say at first and then when they get to know you and know what you are capable of they will start to allow you to make decisions.

T

I think they will turn it around quite quickly as they will also want it done before the start of the new year

Interview Presentation - trying to keep my spirits up
T

I have never done that before either, but I would just give an overview of the area. I expect they are mainly looking to see your presentation skills and a bit about your understanding of the background of the topic.

Good Luck!
