Can I mention my scholarship on an academic poster?
T

Quote From butterfly20:
Don't waste space on it, people who are viewing your poster are interested in your research, not who funds it. I imagine you can add to the programme it if you're required to submit an abstract.

Sometimes it's a requirement of the funder that their logo is on your poster

Computer Science PhD - Average Working Week
T

It's not all about long hours.

In my first year I worked more like 10 to 5 and half of that was coffee, lunches and training sessions. In years 2 and 3 I worked maybe one or two evenings a week and maybe two saturday's a month (but that was because I was making up time from not working hard enough in the week). In my 4th year I worked every evening and weekend because I spent a lot of time in the week earning money in the department because I was unfunded in my 4th year.

Not everyone on here agrees but I still think a PhD is an easy life compared to jobs where I have worked 8-7 every day for 9-5 pay.

You just have to know when to pick up the pace and when to take it easy.

Support network for part time PhD

Quote From HazyJane:
Even if you do a PhD full time and have a desk in an office full of postgrads... the PhD is always ultimately a lonely experience. Whereas with a Masters there is shared camaraderie as you work towards common deadlines, study the same materials and finish at the same time, PhDs are always a different experience.

Hmm, not sure I agree with this. I always felt I was working towards common goals - annual reports, first conference, first poster, first talk etc. I never felt lonely during my PhD. Sure, the specifics of the work were different, but we all could share in each others disappointments when experiments didn't work and success when they did.

Why am I not able to get into a PhD program?

What country are you applying in? Just India? Do you mean that you are accepted into Pune, but they won't actually let you start a PhD? I don't understand.

Professional Doctorate - Awful Thesis

Just choose an external examiner that has similarly limited knowledge and you will be fine :P

Seriously though, are you sure you are not overreacting? Can you ask someone else for their opinion?

Usually you would have a separate section for funding, even with only one sponsor and even if that is your university.

Your contact details would usually be another separate section.

submitting doctoral work in progress to a conference
T

No it doesn't have to be. Many people publish their data in journals before they submit their thesis. It just needs to be your own work.

We have other with on here from time to time with similar queries.

It never hurts to ask the university admissions office and see what your options are.

Good luck!

It's fine to submit your work to a conference before publication in a thesis in the form of conference papers, posters and talks. This is normal practice.

Hi All can anyone tell me how many pages should be included in the master thesis from beginning to end

Varies by university and discipline, and is usually given as a word count, not page number. 30,000 is average maximum I believe.

You can do a PhD without an MSc in the UK, not so sure about in Germany.

Wanting to submit soon but supervisor not read anything!

I think you're going to be alright Grumpy. I bet, like you said, he knows your writing style, and he's probably glanced through stuff and seen it's ok and therefore he has put off actually doing the bulk of the reading.

I wouldn't worry now, I would wait and see how the meeting goes.
