WANT TO BUY A PHD. ( Have done lots of research and need it evaluated)

No PhD that is bought will be recognised.. Numpty! They aren't worth the paper they are printed on. If you want a PhD then you have to work for one like the rest of us..

relationship dilema...! dream job or partner?
T

Interesting what you say about jealousy Olivia, that was one of the issues I had with the person I was talking about. He hated the fact that I had a better education with better prospects. He also didn't like the fact that ultimately I would end up earning more money than him; to him money was the be all and end all.

relationship dilema...! dream job or partner?
T

I had a similar experience after I finished my undergrad, I ended having to choose between my partner and my own career plans and I regret my choice completely. I'll spare you the details but basically I chose to go with the relationship and ended up in a job I hated as job prospects were low in the area we moved to. We ultimately broke up when I decided I wanted more out of my life and I got no support with my future plans. I was told that if I was going to move away to go to uni 'again' then I would be going alone. The result is I felt I had ended up wasting alot of my time/energy/money moving for someone who just wanted everything on their terms. At the end of the day any partner worth their weight will be supportive of your choices. He is being a little unfair to you if the only reason keeping him there is because he just doesnt want to move, he should be willing to at least try to work out some sort of compromise.

Do you recommend that !
T

Why don't you give it to your supervisor to read through? Or you could ask some other people within your research group to have a look at it.

Personally I wouldn't pass on any manuscript containing my research/results to someone outside of my immediate research group, and I certainly wouldn't then add them as an author of the paper. Addiontally I would imagine your university would have something to say about you sending your results to a third party before it is offically published due to IP/copyright issues. Besides when you submit the paper for publication it will be reviewed by experienced people.

planning weekend in the lab

I will be heading to the lab in a bit.. fun fun fun!

CV - advice needed with detail of results
T

Mmmm this is a bit of a tricky one, I think it depends on your type of degree. I'm a scientist and I have never included exact marks in my CV however, when I applied for PhDs I often had to send a copy of my academic transcript.
But on the other hand my other half is a laywer and despite having two firsts he still has various marks for certain modules in his CV, which I was told was common practice in that area.

Conservation mSc suggestions

question of the day
T

@Sleepyhead..

lol.. That is a bit different Hope your cat isn't too poorly, what's up with him/her?

With these students they have like 6 weeks to do an essay then on the last possible day they want an extension, its blatent that they just haven't done it and have tried to come up with a lame excuse as to why they can't hand it in.

question of the day
T

My other half gets stuff like that all the time, he gets students coming in and asking him to organise appointments with some of the senior lecturers or asking him if Dr Smith is in the building.. I am sure I wasn't that bad when I was an undergrad.. Some of them just seem so dense and/or lazy!

The best ones have to be the students who email the day before an essay is due with lame excuses as to why they can't hand it in 'I have a cold', 'My cat is sick and I had to go to the vet can i have an extension till next week', 'I have a poorly foot' (how that stops you typing i don't know). Strange how these things come up just before the deadline!

freezer disaster........! months of work lost.
T

Yeah it is crap when that happens I have had that before but luckily i was in the lab when it happened so I could whisk everything from that freezer to the ultracold storage rooms before it all totally defrosted.

PhD interview experiences

Slow progress - every feel like you are not getting anywhere?
T

After a few months it is totally normal to feel this way.. Even after 18 months I sometimes feel like I am getting nowhere lol.. I am sure you are doing better than you think, just keep at it
