first of all, read the regulations in the University you want to apply. Some universities even emphasise "DO not send as CV. Fill in forms!".

my supervisor says that if you really, really are very motivated you write up a PhD in 3 months;) So, why to work more? But he also says that 5 hours a day and free Sunday should be allright.

several months after a close family member died and three weeks time after time. Still I hope to finish within 3 years:)

January, february, March...July...December,... if you are a PhD students every month, all weather conditions are bad for you:(( And yes, I do want a proper life as well:)

PS. I would not rely on probability that you get accepted even if you cant pass IELTS with sufficient score. at the end of the day you will have to submit theses in English and universities are not interested in students who cant pass their thesis in time just because they dont know emglish very well....

Tomas, the most productive approach would be to make a list of universityies in the Uk in which you are interested and which have a department specialised in your field. Then to email to scientists there who work in the field you are interested in (I mean more specialised field) and to apply to these universities.

I would say that a good supervisor would discourage a final year PhD student from all above activities not demands to do them. Sounds like a real blackmailing. Maybe you could calculate how much time you might devote to these activities so that your PhD still gets done in time and propose to your supervisor that you are doing this and that for so many hours.

seriously- maybe your university has a message board for adds, you could post there that you are looking for a place for a week, you never know....

we have one PhD sleeping in his office for 3 months already- it proves that it is possible;))

it probably depends on in which university you do your PhD and in which subject. I rarely go to Uni, unless I need something from library or want to see some people. Mainly working at home.
