I wish there was a way of winning this thread. I have a feeling it'll go on for all of eternity and archaeologists will use it as an accurate way of finding out what PhD life was like for students through the ages, like a sort of time line. So, we'll need to make sure we post regularly and not leave it for a few days at a time, or there'll be embarrassing spaces in the history textbooks of the future.

Why are you doing a PhD?

Cos I ain't got no place else to go!!! (blub, blub, sniffle)

Any help?

Zveda, I've sent you're best off getting what you need for yourself.  I've sent you the log in details to access it. Do it ASAP before it stops working.

I tried a few (of the many) Carolina Universities, and did everything you said but it did not work, I kept being asked for a username and password. I appreciate the fact that you went into all this trouble for me and I am really thankful, but maybe it was not meant to be. Thanks anyway :-)

@TheCoastman: Some good questions indeed, but I'd rather not consider them or else I will surely go mad. My current supervisor does not care about me and does not like me either. I's been months since I stopped counting on him for help. Long story, better not get into it. :-(

Hey Zvezda, it definitely works. I've just retried it. YOu don't need to enter a username and password. YOu just need to put the proxy notes into your browser internet settings and it'll work just fine. I'm sorry you're having trouble with it.

The only thing about this party is that it's a bit quieter than the usual ones I go to. And usually, I never usually dance to Up All Night With Rod Sharp on 5 Live. BTW, hope some coffee helps you Lara!

fxxking technology - I can't send you a private message, so here is how to get it.

On your internet explorer, go to the tools tap, click on internet options, click on the connections tab and then go to lan settings. Click on it and then click the proxy server tab. After doing this enter

150.216.136.13 - as the address and
8080 - as the port

click on ok.

Then go to the uni of carolina website, go to the library website and search using the key terms international country risk. You'll find that PRS Group International Country Risk Guide [electronic resource] is one of the hits
If you click on it, it'll take you to the Lexus Nexus website and you'll be able to search for exactly what you want from it. I couldn't get it for you as there's so much data, so best for you to get what you want specifically. Please bear in mind that this proxy pass will not last for very long, so be quick about it.

Hope it helps

Ok, Zvezda, I can get it but there's an awful lot of documents. Can you let me know what you'd like most - there's far too much to download everything.

What about organisations like INVOLVE? You could ask them to include you in their next newsletter/on their website?

I'm doing mixed methods too involving patients and HPs, I'm able to recruit from the surgery. What about asking doctors/nurses to pass on questionnaires/invites to patients with the relevant illnesses?

Local support groups/council provisions etc might also be worth looking into.

I agree with Smilodon. 2 hours sounds like a lot to participants although I intended on doing 20 minute brief interviews as part of mine and some went on past an hour. People like to talk about their illnesses generally but they don't like the sound of committing to that kind of length of time.

Good luck

I agree with smilodon too! Thanks for your advice A116 - I've just checked out the site you mentioned and it looks promising. I'll look at my methods if need be - as they're textbook lengths of time that I quote. And I'll have a good word with my supervisory team about my foreseen potential problems. Thanks to both you and Smildon for sharing the benefit of your experiences with me.
