Hey Gridlocked!!
You will be there now I take it!!
Hope it went OK.....I thought mine went terribly got asked about me 'moderate accademic career' with particular reference to my A-level Chem Grade!!' so will probably have gone better than you thought!!!
Good luck an hope you get it!!!
See you in Oct?
Am about a month ahead of you!! Applied for PhD at Manchester didnt get it but got 'invited' to apply for another!! an found out yesterday I got it!!!! Whoo Hoo!!
everyone at my set of interviews went in suits!! I dont think you can really overdress it shows you have made an effort in what is important to you!!
Questions wise.....whislt a strong understanding of project is important its not the be all an end all
They are more focused on who you are and what you have done so far, make sure you know your previous research inside out an have a think about what motivates you, how you feel bout litrature reviews, writing up....when your lab work goes 'wrong'...spending hours in labs..... these are the sort of questions I got asked anyway and I think they held more weight than weather I had previous understanding of the research topic!
Are you doing a presentation??? Also reccomend stating the obvious a bit you really know your work they dont and you probably make assumptions!!
Thats about it!! What Dept are you in?? Let me know how you go?? Hopefully I will see you milling round library/bar in October!!!
Yeah again I would have said if in Manchester go to dental hospital!
Have been told to disolve soluble asprin in minimal ammount of water and rub on sore/swollen area (but not suitable for asthatics or those with history of stomach ulcers)
Or have heard clove oil very effective but tastes vile!!
From my experience with my Mres lamb its normally lack of organisation in most departments!
Sounds like its a common thing then!! I hope they do let me know very rude if they dont!
They were very prompt with interview date (application closed fri an was given a date for interviews on the tue!)
At least can use it as an excuse to have a few glasses of wine....purely for their sedative effects to help me sleep an stop worrying of course!!
Just a question those of you who are doing PhD's
How long did you wait between interview and being told you were unsucessfull/Sucessfull??
Cause had an interview on tue and was told I would definately know by the end of the week........doesnt look like that has happened....susspense is killing me!! Interview didnt go all that well got asked some difficult questions bout GCSE/Alevel grades!!
Would I look overkeen to call on mon am if havent heard anything?
Cheers!!
Well I chose one of more classy an less offensive nicknames!!
Got it cause once you get me in the sea/swimmming or paddling pool/river i wont come out cause I like it so much.......even more so as my hobbies are surfing and when I get the chance white water rafting........so water obsessed = water baby!!
Have many more as a tiny person (hobbit an the like ...im not hairy though!!) but could easily offend others who are vertically challenged!!
Depends how strict your classification is....
There was the scandle over those adverse reactions to those phase I drug trials in London earlier this year, I seem to remember something about a hospital (Mesryside??) that was removing organs from children and keeping them for further research against the parents wishes, the nurses/doctors that have injected vincristine into the spine or vein whichever one its not supposed to go in!.......er thats all I can think of off the cuff!!!
How about

findanotherwayofnotworkingonmyPhD.com
I met someone I went to school with in the pub who asked about my degree....when I said pharmacology...they gave me a odd look an said....'really?? I cant quiet see you on a farm!' ....the problem being he was serious!! I then I had to try an explain 'pharmacology' to him leading to a few insuations I was a dealer/druggie ....Oh dear....what is it they say about a little knolowdge being a dangerous thing!
Hmmm Im kinda curious about this too as I have a 2:1 Degree and a Pass in My MRes ( Research masters) Ive just been granted an interview for an ESRC funded PhD so cant completely rule you out but as its in Pharmacy and not all that different from my masters thesis which I assume counts for a bit but guess its different depending on subject!!
