Hi everbody,
i am trying to find out what is the difference between earning a PhD in States and Canada. Checking out the related websites of the universities this is what I understood (in below). Please give me also some of your information and your personal opinion about both countries regarding doing a phd...which one is more rewarding if you plan to go to research environment afterward.
thx
USA:
About 2 years of course work
3+- research
written qualifying exam on different topics
opportunity for doing Major and Minor
--------------------------------------------------------------
Canada:
One year of course work (4 grad course)
Presentation of your research proposal at the end of 12 months
Oral exam: some questions during the presentation proposal
2 to 3 years of research
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for your advice. Well! I am thinking to ask them if they can postpone the starting date for at least 1.5month or not. If they do then would be really great! But otherwise, maybe doing the exams at first would be a safer option. Even though the offer is so appealing
I definitely want to apply for a PhD afterward and doing th thesis with that institute could be a break through for me, but on the other hand three years for a master doesn't look good...
could that make a problem in future for me to get a good admission?
Regards,
( sorry that I continued the post with a reply...!! )
Hi everybody,
I'm an international student and I am doing a master of science in Germany. I applied to a very well reputed research center which is very far from the place I am already living. My profile was matching their need and fortunately they accepted to give me a paid thesis position :D. The only problem is that they want me to start as soon as possible (in the mid of next month). That means I should finish the two projects that I have on my hand as soon as possible and thats a lot of work. The other problem is that I should move out to another town and doing it in less than a month is also a hard task! But the most important thing is that I can not take the final exams in this semester. It means I should postpone it to the next year and that means doing a master in 3 years instead of 2 years!
