Hello there,
I'm presently a doctoral candidate in the field of ecology and am looking for guidance on how to successfully manage my teaching and research obligations. I'm in my second year of the programme, and although I'm very enthusiastic about what I'm doing, I've lately taken on more onerous teaching assistant responsibilities.
My research takes a lot of time and concentration because it involves a lot of fieldwork and data analysis. I oversee lab sessions, grade assignments, and help undergraduates in addition to my other responsibilities. Even though I like every element of my academic career, I struggle to effectively manage my time and strike an equilibrium between work and life.
I have the following specific queries:
Time management advice: How can you set priorities for your work and make sure you fulfil deadlines without sacrificing the calibre of your output or your health?
Managing Commitments: How do you manage your research and teaching obligations, particularly during busy times like exam or fieldwork seasons?
Looking for Assistance: Have you discovered any specific tools or networks of support, either inside or outside your university, that have helped you manage these two roles?
Mental Health: How could you manage the strain and stress that comes with managing a number of obligations? What are some strategies for preserving emotional and mental health?
I would be interested in learning about your experiences as well as any guidance you may have.
Thank you in advance
