Hello, I have a confession to make, that may have me kicked out of your forum. I am not a medical student I am actually a tattoo artist. I am researching methods of industry improvement in sterilisation and decontamination. I have very high standards of hygiene control and tight procedures to run my studio, so much so that my visiting Health Protection Nurse has asked me to devise courses to run for other studios. I feel that I have a couple of more years of research to do before I will be comfortable to undertake this.
There is currently one issue that boggles my noodle, should we be switching to single use tip systems? The tip is a device which holds the needle steady and although it does not penetrate the skin it is in contact with mucous membranes, much like a scalpel or saw handle. The needles are of course single use.
As far as my current research has lead me there is only cases of viral transmission in the case of improper cleaning prior to decontamination and sterilisation and that the cases of this are remote and often abroad.
My concern for single use devices is the environmental impact and the reduced control of a vibrating machine.
Does anyone know of any specific case studies that can help in my evaluations and also what are your personal opinions.
I am very grateful for any time given to me and this issue.
