funding for MA Translation

N

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice or has been in the same situation as I'm at the end of my tether! I've just graduated with a 2:1 in Russian and German and want to pursue a career in translation. Got a place at Surrey to study, applied for a CDL from the Royal Bank of Scotland and got refused. This has messed things up a bit since I was depending on that loan for funding..Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I am now employed 27 hours a week and have considered doing the course part-time but am unwilling to be starting my career in my late 20s! Thanks in advance

Hi

Just because one place turned you down for a CDL, you can still try the two other banks e.g. Barclays and Co-op.

Your age is irrelevant. Most successful translators are in their 40s or 50s anyway. There's no rush. You could ask CILT or the Institute of Linguists for advice on bursaries or try the database run by the Family Welfare Association (www.fwa.org.uk).
