jobs in public health

E

i am currently a masters in public health student and i get scared when i go online and difficult to find jobs with this qualification. pliz help with infos on any institution or company that requires somebody with my future qualification.

M

I completed an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine a few years ago. There are a wide variety of jobs in this field depending on what you are interested in.

I would advise you to look in the Guardian newspaper, particularly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the bmj website and specific organisations that have a focus on Public Health, so this may be university websites, such as University College London, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Imperial College London etc. Also, the London Deanery advertises Public Health training schemes.

You might want to consider seeking some careers advice, there should be somebody dedicated to this at your institution. I hope that this information helps you.

Thanks very much.

information very useful and encouraging.thanks once more

I agree with you Eve. Have you been successful in securing employment within public health? There are variety of jobs, but I question my ability as I have no experience within the field.

M

I am considering the MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygeine... - could you give me your view of this course? Also what background did you come from - ie first degree and work experience?
Your advice wuld be much appreciated.

E

MSc in Public Health is a brilliant course especially at your mentioned institute. My first degree is Biomedical Science. You won't regret doing this course.

E

Googluck with ur future career

I posted this as a new thread elsewhere, but perhaps it would have been better to ask here:

I'm interested in doing a Masters in epidemiology or public health, but I don't really know how to choose between them. Looking at courses on offer, both appeal to me, and I'm pretty sure I would be happy doing either.

What I really want to know is: would choosing one over the other have any impact on future job/PhD opportunities? Is there any reason why I might end up regretting choosing one over the other?

Thanks

H

Actually, one other qu - what's the difference between an MSc in Public Health and a MPH? I get the impression that the latter is more of a clinical professional qualification? I have a non-clinical biomedical background.

H

Any thoughts?

E

Can I ask how you found the course? and did you enter a specific field of clinical practice after completion?
