Get out your diaries and pray you've finished writing up your PhD by the time it happens. The media is full of it. It's all over the front pages of the news papers. It's getting some serious air time on the national news. I'm currently watching that gardener come talk show host (Alan Titchsmarsh...) talking about what the bride should wear. This is the biggest event of the decade. The Daily Wail will be giving away commemorative cups and saucers (and in the Age of Austerity!?). This is it (only bigger than Michael Jackson's ill-fated come back)! Can you tell what it is yet? One of them princes are getting married - the tall one. I was just saying to a mate, it's luck that his wedding is not on the same day because I'll be attending another one.
Sarcasm aside, why all the hysteria? It's the worst news I've had all week. It means that the radio, news papers and national news are just completely dedicated to it. People get married everyday. That annoying royal correspondent, James Whittacker, will emerge from under his stone and invade This Morning once again. Maybe I'm being a bit mean because of writing up, but bleuurrghhh.
What does anyone else think about it. Do you think it's super exciting, or are you like me - shrugging your shoulders and going 'so, what? Cadbury's Chomps have gone up from 10p to 15p and then 18p. That represents and 80% increase'.
In fact, I'll do a poll to gage the reaction of the PhD population.
I too couldn't giive 2 f**ks about the royal wedding, although i do hope the Briish taxpayer is being spared the expense of holding the thing, we might have to sack 10 extra council workers to be able to pay for it, I shall be most angry if the windsors cannot in fact themselves come up with the money, or alternatively hold a modest, no frills ceremony at the nearest registry office.
I suppose we may all get a day off if it's on a weekday, although being a British Republican, i'm not going to acknowledge this by taking said day off.
Well I really don't care, but then they won't care that I don't care will they? - It was quite interesting to see the reaction of certain other royals though, and the choice of ring what was that really about... I am looking forward to a day off though - if we get one, as I could do with the time to get on with my thesis. It will bring all the toadies out of the woodwork won't it, and I wonder who will suddenly become a royalist for the duration?
I'm deeply thrilled by it all for some reason, in fact, I nearly cried when I read about it in the Metro at 7:30 this morning while waiting for myy train - I think they are lovely. This could possibly be due to the fact that I am teaching almost 20 hours per week in three different Unis and cities -none of which I live in - and have just had to write 3 module outlines with zero notice and I am losing it. It could also be to do with the fact that I am a sucker for a quality frock and that blue velvet (velveteen?) number Kate was wearing is a stunner and really suited her colouring and shape - not to mention the blue stone of Diana's ring.
Sorry Wal. am actually not a royalist at all and think they should be downsized and stripped of most of their assets, but I take heart from how nice they seem, and that hopefully, Kate will have a much better time of it than Di. As I say, I need a holiday.
A royal wedding is bad news for the push for a republic here in Australia - people tend to get all starry-eyed over royal weddings and coronations...
And yes, the journalists here have been squeaking about nothing else for the past 24 hours, but the excitement seems to be dying down now.
Well, I suppose I've been a bit harsh. They're harmless enough. It's only because they've most likely ruined the Steven Nolan show this weekend, and thus my exciting weekend (well, whilst I write up). Ahhh...unless I e-mail him before the show and ask if he'd be willing to hold a debate on whether it's all this speculation about the wedding is a waste of the public's time or not.

I've been quite suspicious over the whole thing, I'm assuming some news story has been slipped out underneath it all that's something like "government decides to carry out random shootings to reduce population". I wouldn't be surprised if at least, they've been planning this for several years and waiting until it looks like a horrible winter, with no money to suddenly say "but yay, we have a wedding" to supposedly boost us all.
I too fear the constant drivel of James Whittacker - he is a complete moron who is clearly not liked by any of the royals, but persists on hanging around the outer circles like that unpopular but desparate kid in school who learns all the school gossip off facebook, but then recites it as if he were there.
The way I see it, if we're paying for it all, we should get to do phone voting (free of course) to decide details about the wedding, perhaps even choose another bride? and the dress, the venue etc etc.
And most shocking of all, she's from trade!!!! :p
Well I think its lovely :-) They are a cute couple and I hope that they'll have a good life together - certainly better than his parents'! They both seem like really nice young people, good luck to them - and I love a good wedding - I'd rather my taxes paid for that than for the legal team for some mad mullah! And yes, I am a royalist, I think they bring far more to the country in terms of tourism income etc than we understand. The thought of a republic makes me shudder - I hope I'm long dead before that happens - President Cameron and Clegg - can you imagine.....
I like the idea of royalty, I just think this current lot are too dull. I want some really really bad behaviour or someone more down to earth - surely they are supposed to entertain us and be the gossip of the day, rather than jordan etc.
I'd be a really good member of the Royal family. I almost wish that, just like that King Ralph movie, they were all blown up (in the nicest, most humorous way possible, like in the movie) and that I was established to be next in line to the throne. I'd fill all the pages of Take-A-Break (King Walminski spotted in Burger King), Peoples' Friend (The King buys every member of the Women's Institute a scone) and Rolling Stone (King Walminski DJ's in Ibiza). Of course, I'd do naughty stuff as well and stick my nose into politics. I'd tell Dave to sort out the Higher Education system properly; I'd personally see to it that all PhD students were given an MBE upon graduation; and I'd definitely be a champion of art and culture (even though I don't properly understand it).
Of course, I'd need a queen. Now I'm in my Saga years I'd probably just need one that's a good cook, enjoys listening to my endless tales of research woes and that enjoys country walks. I suppose I could approach Nigella Lawson but high blood pressure at tea time is a recipe for indigestion.
