What's everyone doing for Valentine's day?

H

Going out with that special someone, or clubbing with mates?

Or will you be working hard on your PhD?

It's tradition to have a Valentine's thread (or two) every year :-)

S

Not doing anything special- both me and the other half are way top busy! Might get a card if I am lucky and if he remembers- one year I got a card saying 'happy valentines to my wife'- we're not married! He said he got it cos it was cheap! Safe to say that neither of us are very romantic! Actually, I should go to the shop and get him a card at some point!

H

lol SillyBilly!

I've made my hubbie a card, it looks awful but its the thought that counts???? I've bought him a prezzie too.

I think he's taking me out for dinner and I asked him last night but he basically said, it's a secret, which means he hasn't given it much thought!

S

Tried the whole card making thing a couple of times but get no more reaction than a shop-bought card. So have given up! My other half is just not romantic!

R

We generally swap cards, that's about the extent of it really! I think it is a bit of a 'blown out of proportion' celebratory day if you know what I mean... but at the same time if the other half forgot to get me a card i'd probably be a bit p'd off!!!

S

valentine's has only recently become something to pay attention to in switzerland - pushed by marketing efforts from flower vendors. i've never done anything special for valentine's yet. don't see why i should start. we do nice things for each other whenever we feel like it, which is often enough.

C

I think love and affection should be given and recieved without prompting and expectation throughout the year. I don't celebrate valentines day, but wouldn't describe myself as unromantic!

S

Stabbing myself in the eye with a biro

T

I will probably be working or watching crappy Thursday night TV.. My other half is at a different uni to me about 250 miles away, so its not easy to meet up mid week! But saying that I don't really like the whole commercialism behind it, and I don't think that it makes you unromantic if you feel that way. I get annoyed by the restaurants who charge over the odds for couples with a special 'valentines day menu', which is usually a crap set menu with little variety!

I personally feel its much nicer to get a little card or surprise your partner with something any other time of the year, as its totally unexpected. On valentines day there I am sure with alot of people there is a general feeling of 'Oh it's valentines day I best get a card' so that to me kind of takes some of the sentiment away.

H

sleepyhead, why?

S

Well, number one, I'm single and have ex-boyf issues. Second, because I'm single I've been nominated to work that day (all the other people have partners to go out with). I work in a pen shop which is full of very stupid people who come in and say "I want a pen" - ooooh, well done - what kind of pen do they want "a nice one". Great.

T

You should say "I'm sorry madam, but we're currently out of stock of nice ones. But we have a special deal on mediocre pens".

I'm sure that there are plenty of people who would whisk you away for the evening if they had the chance.

H

are you offering coastman?

S

oooh eck, are you the Postgradforum cilla black H?

T

I was just trying to be nice!
