wiped off the face of facebook, but no reason why...

======= Date Modified 10 22 2010 00:22:04 =======
My friend's facebook account has been shut down and he can't open another with the same details. They haven't told him why, he just tried to log on and they'd removed him - he's had to open a completely different account. I find all this really odd - I'm quite suspicious of FB anyhow, maybe they found out about his left-wing undergrad activities? Do any of you have any idea why they might do this, are they spying on us and weeding us out?

I have no idea, I don't really like FB and never really use it. I've only used it this week to spy on my brother in law in case he announces my Sister in law's baby - because my phone ran out of battery and we can't remember their number!

I think that facebook accounts do get hacked though, so maybe it wasn't FB but some random who hacked into it and closed it down. Have you checked that his friends aren't getting weird status updates or anything from him?

Anyways, who is this "friend" (in desparate need of romance gossip!)

Thanks Sneaks. I think it's more dramatic than that, his account has completely disapeared, and what makes that even odder to me is that I tried to delete my account about 6 moths ago and couldn't, the closest I could get was to have it go dormant, no deletion allowed.

Sorry Sneaks, my firend is not the marrying kind... In fact I did suspect facebook of being jealous of his status as a very popular and much featured 'hot gay bloke with a beard' on that particular FB interest group. He's my old friend from about 20 years ago, he used to live in my parent's house when he was an undergrad and we've stayed good pals ever since.

My partner's daughter had her account deleted. I thought it might be because she swears a lot with the c word and stuff (only in a young persons humourous way) But there's worse on the web so I don't know. She did set up a new account and everyone got new friend requests from her which was worrying as then we didn't know if that was genuine until we checked with her. But she has managed to get her original account back again - I don't know how but I can check next time I'm on FB!

It sounds to me like it's either been compromised (as happened to my account and really isn't that uncommon) or he's been posting things he really shouldn't have been (in which case you agree to their T&Cs when you sign up and hard cheese if you get caught out).
