author publication policy

S

Hi all

My supervisor told me last week that I will not co-author a paper about the project I took part for my master. He has been telling me the contrary for months: it is a big disappointment for me.

His argument not to include is that they are not using directly my datas. I understand this policy.

My contribution for the paper is indirect: I repeated a result found by a post-doc and tried optimize it unsuccessfully. Another post-doc then completely solved the problem for another mutant of the same protein (taking into account all the negative results I had?). They then followed the study they are publishing with this mutant.

The good news is that he told me that he thinks that my major contribution to the project was the construction of 2 others mutants that he also wants to publish (Can I believe him now?) and for whose we need to make more data before publishing.

Even if I sometimes found him insensitive, he is overall a good boss. I don’t want to be in a conflict situation with him.
What do you think about this situation?

PS: I know my 'problem' may look ridiculous , especially compared to ones like the one cariad (Oct 15).
I was just wondering what you guys think of it.
