yesterday I heard some banging sound which turned out to be two lads (maybe 12-14 years) climbing onto my roof from the wall (from the alley). It looked like they were going to my neighbor's roof but needed to walk on mine first before getting there.

When I saw them, I quickly got my camera and took some pictures. They saw me and started swearing, and then pulled their t-shirt over their heads and still ran over the roof (to get down).

I dont remember if the alleygates were locked, but there was a black man doing something with the garbage but I think he came from one of the adjoining shops because this happened around 7.30pm so he couldn't be from the council. I don't know where these children came from. I also couldn't see where they ran to after jumping down from my roof.

Please advise me, should I do anything about this? Which number to call? I think 999 is not the one? I remember someone told me that for noise there is a separate number.

Hi Satchi,

There isn't a specific number for "non-urgent" police enquiries. You can look up your local police station on the internet or from directory enquiries and ring them directly. It would be worth ringing them and reporting it, just in case it happens again so you can say that you have reported it before.

It's really more a police matter than a noise nuisance matter (which is dealt with completely differently).

I've just called the local police station; the officer explained to me that I should have called them immediately yesterday and they would have sent someone over, but I didnt know the number yesterday. At least they have it on record now.
I hope yesterday's roof running-climbing was just a one-off. But it did scare me.
