I hold a BSc in Biotechnology and graduated (in Australia)with reasonable marks, however i didnt make the 2:1 grades required here in the UK. However, since graduating, i have worked in the Biopharm industry for 2 years and have gained extensive experience in the industry. I now want to undertake a PhD but fear that i did not have good enough marks throughout my degree. Is there any advice anyone can offer me as i am desperate to further my education.
Some bodies won't offer funding unless you have at least a 2:1. The best thing to do is talk to the supervisors of any projects you're interested in, they can advise you and may not care about your BSc given your experience and obvious enthusiasm. If the worst comes to the worst and your degree marks stop you getting a place, you could take a masters in an appropriate subject - a good MSc means you're elligible for funding whatever your BSc results, and will show that you're serious about wanting to get a PhD studentship.
Nothing more to add to Nancy's advice, try applying for PhDs first, you can always apply for an MSc at the last minute, if you don't get any offers. Funding for MSc courses is much harder to obtain than for PhD's, so be prepared to pay.
