Got a year left of my Phd (in chemistry) and already know I want out the lab and out of chemistry but I would like to work in some kind of research. WHats the chances of getting a postdoc in a different field (still in science maybe psychology or biology oriented). Or I was wondering if there are many generic researcher jobs out there in academia or contract work for organisations? Cheers

Well, it really depends in what you've studied as a chemist. If you've done biochemistry, then it is possible to move into a field like biology or psychology. You may try applying for a research assistant job that requires a chemist's point of view and you will learn what you need along the way. I don't think it will be easy to go straight onto a post doc in these fields though

Lewis is right. You'll need to find some sort of crossover field where they need some input from a chemist. If you find something like that then you've cracked it, but it won't be easy.
