citing internet material - online videos

J

morning everyone,

hope you've beaten the Monday blues.

if you watched a video online, that is related to your subject of research and you want to use the examples therein, would you cite it - given the unauthoritative nature of the site? if you would, how?

which internet resources are acceptable for the purpose of a thesis? all sites? some sites?

Jojo.

R

Nah best not to. Its tempting, but the markers may or may not like it.

A

depends, are you using it as data, or as 'literature'? I have loads of internet material because it is a data source for me.

J

not using it as data. a lecture in which examples are given. my sup only approves of some sites - usually major ones.

i guess, it's best not to site it. feel like am plagiarising tho. .

J

oops.... cite it.

A

you could not cite it in bibliography but use a footnote to acknowledge, sort of 'thank you to xxx for this idea'. Like people do in prefaces to books where they thank people for suggesting stuff, where it is not actually a peer-reviewed source.
