I am interested in a particular field of Science and I have seen a possible project in that field but it is using a different but similar (theory and application) technique to what I am interested in. I would like to know if I took up this project using this technique would I still be able to go back to the technique I'm interested in at a later date? I've noticed that most people tend to stick to the technique/area of expertise of their PhDs. Any thoughts on this would be great! Thanks!
