Failed to submit correction of thesis

W

Dear postgraduateforum users,

I really need your advice.
I had experienced some psychological problems (anxiety) during my PhD, I obtained extension several times and succeeded the viva. I was given 6 months for major corrections, which I could not finish on time because my computer crashed and lost some documents related to my thesis.

I have received a letter from the university telling me that they can't offer a degree because of non-submission of the corrected thesis.

What would you advice me to do next?
Is it allowed to submit this work in another university? There are PhD programs in which you conduct your own research under the supervision of a professor, and you don't necessarily need to complete it in 3 years if you have enough amount of research done. Thus, since the work I have done is there, would this be a solution?

Thank you in advance.

You are not going to be able to submit this work for submission elsewhere.

I would advise going back to your uni and asking for another chance at submission.

I'm not what sort of PhD you are referring to in your last paragraph. You won't be able to get a PhD on the basis that you are resubmitting this research with another professor and especially when you have already been examined (and passed!) for it.

I agree with tree of life.

Go back to the university, apologize, explain your circumstances, ask for an extension, and get those major corrections done. You are nearly there, don't give up.

Meanwhile ask your GP to refer you for some counselling for your anxiety or go and see the university counsellor.

Hello dear friends,

Thank you for your motivation. I will do that, I have nothing to lose anyway. I believe, they also don't have anything to lose if they accept it, since the work is done, right?

The only problem might be on the side of the examiner who has to read the corrections... Hopefully he will be nice.

Thanks again to both of you.

The university has something to gain from accepting your corrections, since they will have another completed PhD for their stats. Good luck!
