I wonder if you can help me, please. Is anyone aware of a UK-based PhD student getting funding to attend conferences/workshops from a body external to their scholarship provider (be it ESRC/direct-uni funded), and if so, do you know how they did it or could you please put me in contact with them?


My university's scholarship doesn't include funding to attend conferences, so I'm desperately seeking ways to fund this vital element of my research.

Are you a member of any scientific societies? They are good funding source for conferences. You can usually get from £300 to 1/2 your conference costs, so you need to be members of at least a couple if it is an expensive conference, and usually you need to be presenting a talk or a poster.
