I began a PhD at a foreign EU university this year, thinking I'd get a bit more of an 'international' experience. But a few months in, things are not good. My tutor told me I'm basically on my own, I won't have any arranged appointments with her but. I haven't seen my tutor now in nearly 4 months, she never emails or attempts to make any contact with me to ask how I'm doing.
I'm considering packing it all in, if not for the scholarship I'd have done it months ago.
Any advice?

It's a pity, so strange that I can't believe it. Maybe you can check it with your university.

Some PhD students hapilly spend months at a time without seeing their supervisor - others see them every day, it depends largely on the nature of the subject, but also what other support is available (in science other lab members will often mentor PhD students). The other two factors are the student and the supervisor.

Having said this your situation does sound particularly bad and you should act now to sort things out. If there is nobody other than your supervisor at your university that you can talk to then I would suggest getting in touch with the National Postgraduate Committee here in the UK for advice - npc@npc.org.uk
