I am thinking of getting someone from industry sponsor me thru my phd...how much does it usually cost for them to do this?

a lot. three years stipend, uni fees, plus whatever it costs the company to have you (e.g. paying someone to mentor you, equipment if you need to work on company premises etc.).

I only need a desk and a computer... i didnt realise there would be that much of a cost.

if the sponsors has to pay for everything then it is going to cost them a lot.

The company sponsoring me are paying me an extra £3k a year, then in the region of £3-£4k tutition fees per year and then paying for my accomodation when i am working in their labs which will be in the region of 9 months over the 3 years. So I guess all in all they will be forking out a hefty amount!!

I am getting department scholarship. So they have to fund me i guess. I was just shocked when I told my supervisor that i made some industry contacts then I got an email asking if they could sponsor me instead. I dont understand...

guess it saves the uni money if you could get it
