I am Kenyan and mean to register for a PhD in the UK. I have identified a prospective supervisor with whom I am developing a research proposal. The hitch is we'll need a funding source and don't have many on our heads so far. Does anyone have links, addresses, sources etc in mind. Thanks. S.
sasa, have you jaribud the dept ur applying to & other unis? that's where am personally checking coz diggz there are no funds. what course are you applying for? that way i might have mo specific info.
sasa S!yeah, sweetchic is right, check the department that you are applying, thats where i got funding from, also try various charities that give funding, like cancer research if you are in that field. All the best..kwaheri
Sweetchic, Shi. Ahsanteni. I am interested in biomedical research..worked with HIV and malaria (human molecular immuno- genetics mainly). Do you know how reliable and corruption-free the commonwealth scholarships (kenyan version) are? All the best in your searches as well-where are you? Me Kilifi.
am in the UK. Commonwealth scholarships are a matter of luck. save for your grades you stand a better chance if you've never studied abroad and believe it or not if you know someone. it's sad, but that's how it is. interviews are a matter of procedure, normally they've already chosen the candidates. try, you never know someone might just like your papers.
have you tried liverpool? they are very keen on tropic medicine. by the way so many unis have science studentships so you should try more unis and the adverts on this site.
am in the UK too, thankfully was able to secure a really good studentship and now 6 months into the PhD, really enjoying it! Yeah as sweetchic has said, try to checkout the departments you are interested in, also try London school of hygiene and tropical medicine.all the best S and sweetchic
thanks shi and all the best. hope i get a studentship soon so that i can get on with my Phd. It's inspiring to know that a kenyan managed to get a studentship from a UK university- believe it or not, you're the first i've heard of. congratulations and all the best in your phd.
