As soon as i finished my MSc. a month later i started my PhD and didnt have time to amend my MSc dissertation into a paper so that i could hopefully publish it. its been 6 months now and since ive settled well into my phd studies i thought of rearraning my MSc dissertation into a paper maybe it would take me a week to do it (?) because the format of the MSc thesis was that of a paper however we got exceptions in terms of the amount of words and pages to write.

My question is ... is it too late to submit a paper even tho i finished the thesis 6 months ago ?

Hey Ecas! No, it's certainly not too late to submit it! Often papers get published when they're based on data that was collected a year or two ago, because that's how long it takes to get round to writing the papers up and analysing them. There's a girl in my office who finished her PhD about 18 months ago and she is still writing new papers and getting them published. Obviously it's nicer if the data is recent, and the other thing is that if you delay it for a very long time someone else might have been studying your topic and beat you to it! But 6 months is fine- go for it! Good luck! KB

no, I published my dissertation. I wrote it in 2006, refined it into a paper during 2007-2008 and then it finally got published in 2010.

ALthough I would factor in more than a week - its better to get it accepted into a good journal than any journal.

I have a question, could we publish our Masters Dissertation without supervisor?

My Masters dissertation was quite different from my current PhD topic therefore my current supervisor didn't really bother
about publishing my masters dissertation.

I did quite well for my Masters Dissertation so hoping I could publish that as well.

How can I publish it? where should I look for this info?

Its usually fine to work up a paper by yourself. But before you submit it you will have to let your supervisor read it and agree to it being sent to a journal. At that point, they may help you scope it further, they may want to add their name as second author, or they may not want to be put on as second author - depending on the status of the journal you are sending it to and the quality of the paper etc. So yes you can, but you need to check with them before sending it.

good point, I did my MSc abroad and my supervisor was just there to guide me in managing my chapters other than that he was just a lecturer who had a student .. nothing else... i chose the subject myself because of my interest. But he was very nice and polite, will email it to him then sees what he says. I wasnt sure supervisor needed to know im considering publishing but ye it would help i guess.
