M

hi,
i have a bachelor degree in microbiology. i want to do master from uk university in subject related to my current subject. now i have browse through many universities webs sites but i couldn't make up my mind to what to do. there are courses in biotechnology and microbiology but unfortuntately there are no master leve course in pharmacy. Also i am looking for laboratory sceince related course or clincal sceinces related course. So kindly some one please help me with this. Specially i want to take admission in universities which are placed in leeds or west yorkshire area.
kindly help me and give me suggestions.

Pharmacy is usually a 4 year course leading to NHS registration. You might be able to do an MSc in Pharmacology I guess.

It sounds like you are interested in a lot of different things. How about opting for something like an MRes in Biomedicine, which would give you more research experience than an MSc, and might enable you to explore the different disciplines you are interested in. What are you hoping to achieve via a Masters?

If location is the most important thing to you, then the simplest thing to do is find all the universities in that area and look at their websites. It shouldn't take too long. A map and Google is probably all you need.

thanks for your reply,
actually my aptitude is towards research and i want to become research sceintist. although i dont have the means. i want to know what field should i choose considering my back ground degree which is bsc microbiology , in one of the three fields, like microbiology, biotechnology and biomedical sceinces.
Also please can you clarify more on MRES WHICH is quite a new thing for me.
in the end thanks for your reply again.

What do you mean by "I don't have the means"?

In the sciences, in the UK, it's quite normal for people not to do a Masters before a PhD. The usual reasons people do a Masters first are (i) not doing well enough in their BSc to be accepted to do a PhD or (ii) wanting to change fields. So if you did well in your degree and feel that you have enough of a knowledge base, then maybe you don't need to do a masters.

With regard to an MRes degree, it's a type of masters course that has a greater emphasis on research. So whereas and MSc will be about 50:50 of taught vs research content, an MRes will have about 70% research and 30% taught component. Another thing to conisder is getting a job as a research technician/assistant to get more experience of working in a lab, and to try to clarify your ideas about future directions for research.

Good luck! :)

hi,
i have finally decided to do masters in biomedical sciences, but the prb is that i have got three years bachelor degree in microbiology.
i am from pakistan. i have few years work experience of working in this field. i want to take admission in sheffield hallam or leeds met in bomedical science subjeects.
when i contacted them they were saying that i should send my docs. although in their website it is written that they want four-years bachelor degree. what can i do . am worried.

H

On both of these it says an honours degree:
http://www.shu.ac.uk/prospectus/course/1087/entry/
http://courses.leedsmet.ac.uk/biomedicalsciences_msc

Which is a 3 year bachelors degree passed to a sufficiently high standard to award honours. I can't see any reference to a 4 year degree.

If you have any concerns about whether your qualifications are suitable you should contact the admissions office of the university or a course tutor for the masters programme.

thanks for ur reply, but what i was mentioning before was eligibility for specific country. for pakistan they say they need 4 years bachelor degree. so thats why, i asked that question. thanks a lot for ur reply . i really appreciate it.
