Mark scheme

G

Hi,

I was wondering whether somebody could outline/point me towards the marking scheme for a PhD. I was awarded mine this summer, with an A2, which I was told was minor corrections. However, somebody else I know was awarded B1 this week, which he was told was minor corrections. Discussing this with friends still in the midst of their projects, it is apparent that none of us actually know the marks that we are in fact working towards. Any help would be appreciaed.

I've never heard of a marking scheme for a PhD although, of course, there are criteria which must be fulfilled. AFAIK it is simply down to the examiners to decide the outcome of the thesis and viva in terms of the usual pass, pass with minor/major revisions, resubmit (with or without another viva), award of Mphil and finally, outright failure. I suppose the real grey area is the decision on whether the corrections are considered to be minor or major.

I think the difference between and A2 and a B1 is how long the corrections are expected to take. I think an A2 is less than two pages that could be done in less than 2 weeks (?) A B1 takes a little longer (more than two weeks)

Perhaps someone else knows more detail.

P.S congrats on an A2
