Nervous

G

Hi I start my PhD next week and I am getting a bit nervous. I'm not sure what preperation I should be doing. Does anyone have any advice? I am currently reading my supervisors thesis but it's taking forever and I feel like I will never finish it!

G

Why are you reading the thesis??? How about reading some review articles instead? They should be shorter and more up to date.

G

Who encouraged you to read your superviosor's thesis? I do not see the essence in reading a full thesis now as that might shallow your criticality. Get involve in the 'Green Leaves' fun and the rest will follow.

G

Reading your supervisor's stuff will just scare you. Be patient, work hard , and everyting will follow. (Honest!)

G

Well I asked my supervisors for some pre-reading on the topic. Most of it is utterly incomprehensible, so don't worry ! The whole point of doing a PhD is that you WILL understand it all eventually, they won't expect you to yet ! The fact that you are making the effort to try and find out a bit more will be a positive thing. Good luck !

G

I agree with anon german, you should really begin reading review articles. However, don't sweat too much as you will have plenty of time to read like mad when you actually start the project!

G

Goodluck for when you start - you're not the only one in the same situation!!

G

U will be fine. Have some ideas and have things to say. I know how u feel as do alot of people on this forum

G

My supervisor gave it to me to read. I kinda regret reading it now! Oh well! I am going to start looking for reviews etc today.

Thanks for all the advice.
