i think this is BPS wishful thinking - the government has recently clarified that it will not fund 3-year training, so universities (I think 12 are BPS-accredited) cannot offer anything other than the 1 year training at present, requiring PGCE. the best thing to do is what youre doing & go ahead with the PGCE. i did research into this a while ago when i wanted to do Ed Psych - all interested parties (BPS, AEP, DfES, FENTO, TTA etc....) had a different take on it, and i got a number of different answers depending on which organisation i asked!
