PhD Fatigue - 1 year in

L

Hi all,

I'm differentiating tomorrow but I have absolutely 0 motivation. I've been at the same university since 2005 and I feel like I'm in a very deep rut. Everything I have to do, including this interview tomorrow, feels like a chore. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I appear to be good at what I do, it all just seems a bit futile.

Is anybody else in this situation? Would it be worth (assuming I'm upgraded tomorrow) looking into changing universities?

If you don't have advice, I'd also welcome some communal whinging

,-)

Linds.

Hi Linds,

I hope you did fine at your upgrade.

it would be worth to take some time off. It seems like you burned out. It happens to me too when I am over-worked. After you come back, try to enjoy life as much as possible. Do things you enjoy on a daily basis. The PhD is a long distance run, it is not a sprint. So, you need to stick to a productive routine you enjoy to keep going. For example, I go to the swimming pool every morning, I enjoy cooking healthy meals, inviting friends over etc... I also try to sleep well, and try not to worry too much.
