phd in bioinformatics or applied mathematics

G

hiii,
I am a student of 5 year masters integrated course in Mathematics and Computing from IIT Delhi,INdia.I am confused whether to do phd in bioinformatics of applied mathematics.Which one has more scholarships and better jobs. Also I need to know some good institutes where I can apply?
Thanks

G

I suggest you try to find a project in the field that you think is your strongest subject and the one which interests you the most. Good luck.

G

Depends what you want to do afterwards really. If you want to go into biotech or statistical computing stuff, bioinformatics is good. Applied mathematics is good if you want to do, say, industrial applications.

G

I am interested in bioinformatics and computational aspects of statistics. Can anyone please provide more information. Moreover, is it appropriate for someone with little knowledge of biological sciences to enter the field.

G

Ban, fear not ! I knew NOTHING about biology at all and I'm doing a PhD in statistical genetics. It depends on which side you view it from really. If, like me, you consider yourself a statistician with an application in biology, then don't worry about it providing you show the motivation as to why you want to do it.
