PhD Team

G

I am new to this site and was wondering who is a part on the team? Are you lecturers or persons with PhD in industry? How large is this group?

G

That is a very good question, I have often wondered that.

G

We all could benefit if we can share our knowelege and experience and be helpful to each other. At the end of the day what the majority I assume, wish to add to the human knowelege.

G

I noticed that under contacts there were three names. Is it possible that these are the only persons responsible for this site? Seems strange how can they give advice on different academic disciplines?

G

The charlatans!!

The FindAPhD team is made up of the four people who run the site. We answer less than 10% of the posts on this forum. This is either because they have been answered effectively by other forum contributors, or in many cases because we don't know and can't find the definitive answer. We often use the internet to research or check answers to posts, on other occasions we check answers with current/former PhD students and academics across a number of disciplines.

Many of the answers placed by the FindAPhD team advise that students take advice from relevant academics in their area of study. This is precisely because it is not possible to have knowledge and experience of practices in every subject area.

Other content on this site under the name FindAPhD Team is either written by one of the team or commissioned from a relevant expert. In order to run a successful business it is part of our job to know as much as possible about how the PhD process works. One of the reasons we provide and maintain this free forum is to keep ourselves up to date with the issues that concern those looking for a PhD. We hope that the forum also helps potential PhD students shed some light on what can often seem a mysterious process.

G

Thank you Team for your reply. I think this is a good site which provides useful information to students. Keep up your good work.

G

I still think that jobs.ac.uk is a better website for finding PhD posts.

G

Stu, jobs.ac.uk don't offer a forum for students to interact or information on PhD e.g "PhD Explain" so I still think findaphd.com is a good site. They may not have as many advertisement for PhD post but at least for international persons it does provide useful information about UK PhDs and how to apply, expectations etc. Still give them a plus.

G

Good point, and I do agree. I apologise findaphd team.

G

Sirs, Why is there a special Category for business and law and none for Science??? I think it's unfair especially as Scientists are better, in terms of both intelligence and looks and have more interesting things to discuss. Seriously though, maybe mods should consider adding one?

The Business & Law section of the forum is leading up to the introduction of a new Business & Law zone within FindAPhD. This new zone is an experiment to see if FindAPhD can encourage more universities to place information about their PhD opportunities in subject areas which are currently underrepresented on FindAPhD. If it is successful then we will introduce other subject specific 'zones' to encompass more of the arts, humanities and social sciences. If you have used our search facility you will know that we already cover the sciences.

As for who is better, I hope you don't expect us to get involved in that debate!!

G

Science is far better, especially chemistry. Business is just about running a newsagent, or working out profits and loses, basically stuff that a trained monkey can do. Science requires the use of a brain.

G

I understand your point FindAPhD Team, I was jealous that the business people have a whole section to post on the forum whilst we (the scientists) dont. I agree with Stu, Chemistry is the King of the sciences and you need to be highly intelligent to be a chemist. The fact that loads of academic chemistry departments are closing down shows that there are few and few intelligent people left. Anyone see the article (cant remember where) about Einstein really being a chemist rather than a physicist?

G

Aren't chemistry departments closing down because nobody's interested?
