poor supervision

G

They refuse to give adequate guidance. I feel like being pushed into a pool and indeed now at the point of drowning (failing the transfer exam twice). Spoken the Director (PG Research) & others and now requesting for a review based on evidences of poor supervision (emails in which they themselves said to me at times that they were too focused on personal matters and could not give feedbacks.)

How likely do you think that i can make a case out of it?
Please comment.

Hi SH, sorry to hear about your troubles. You have done the right thing in contacting your director of PG research. Hopefully, he/she will find some way to resolve this situation for you. Best wishes.

G

Thanks very much Ann. I also must be skillful in dealing with this since the director of PG research is the colleague of my supervisors for a very long time. Anyway, I have made the appointment with the head of the school and he is seeing me in the next couple days time. i am determined to pursue this matter further at whatever it takes.

G

I've had a similar depressing experience. My supervisor was very two-faced and I was not supported for my PhD. These guys all stick together and are back-stabbing. You should be able to sue them after all the hard work and time spent doing the research!! They should not be allowed to ruin your future!

G

so right about them sticking together. hope you get somewhere with the director person. if not go higher and don't take no for an answer. the only way to get through these things is to be firm and be determined. Good luck!

G

Surely there must be a way to sue these guys? They can't ruin your career and it's always impossible to get a good post anywhere else. I think you should get some legal backing in case they try to screw you over. Remember you're probably already in their bad books!

G

I can understand the level of frustation and resentment in cases such as these but it's ALWAYS worth trying to work things out amicably first without going in all guns blazing and threatening to sue! The meeting with the PG research director should help SH to decide on the next move.

G

I agree with Ann. Talking about suing before you've even discussed it properly is just sillyness.

G

I realise that seeking legal advice is a bit OTT, but I've been through all this and it is very depressing. I've had to move up North and wasted 2 years being messed around by nasty 'supervisors'.

G

in my view, running away from the problem or simply changing institutions is not really a solution. i am so determined to stand up for myself and deal with the matter however difficult they are.
