Research proposal application

S

I am putting together a proposal to do some funded research independent of my PhD (although in the same area). I am having trouble understanding what is expected from me in the application form. They ask specifically for:
"Proposed approach to research/research design" and
"Research methodology to be employed".
I don't understand the difference between research approach and research method, can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks very much for this.

It is confusing. In short, the difference is between methodology and methods. Your research design is usually (rules of thumb here) quantitative where you test a hypothesis, qualitative which would involve building theory from data or answering a question, or mixed which can involve a bit of both.

In terms of methods, you might be looking at experimental methods, surveys, ethnography, discourse analysis, interviews, etc etc.

Hopefully this helps.
