should I start a Phd?

G

I have recently been offered a Phd in Education. However, Iam abiology person and have BSc/MSc ecology. I have tried for many years to get a PhD in biology but always failed. Now I have been offered one in a different area! What should I do? I love biology, and really want to work in it, will this PhD scupper my chances? The problem is that I workin a packing factory, I have lots biology experinece but have not worked in the area for the last few years. Should I give up with biolgoy and start afresh a new subject? Itis better than factory work! should I hold out for a PhD I would like?????

It is important to choose a topic that interests you because you will spend your 3-4 yrs to work on it.Once a friend of me chose a topic that to him looks interesting, but later she found out it is not interesting anymore. Now she consider to change her subject.

Yeh I would hold out for a PhD in a topic that would really interest you.,life is too short and if you snap the first one that comes up then you may regret it. If you want a PhD in biology then try finding a technician job to get back into science. If you were offered a PhD in education then you are obviously good enough for study at PhD level in any subject. Hang in there.

I agree. Hang in there, I would stick with biology if that's what you really want. There seems to be too many people who want to study ecology than there are places. Just out of interest how did you end up with the PhD offer in education if your interest is in biology?

Stick with biology. Factory work is pants, but so is spending the next three years studying something you don't care about. Don't underestimate how boring the subject you love becomes by the end of a PhD, let alone one you're not committed to. You'd be desperate to be packing again!!
