slow slow progress

J

Does anyone else feel like they are progressing really slowly? i have been here 5 months now and I am still not properly into the lab work. I feel like I will never relly get started and I will be stuck reading forever. Please tell me I'm not the only one!

J

have spent most of my time doing boring stuff. have loads of ideas on paper and written up, just need time to actually implement the stuff. grr.

V

on my 2nd year already and no much progress, all time thinking about giving up...we should organise a self-support group:))

R

yes me too! Have been here 5 months and just don't seem to spend much time in the lab. My experiments seem to take a long time to plan and set up, but only a day to perform. Spend a long time at my desk.......

Not too worried i guess as have some interesting results, but other people seem to be working such long hours, i'm doing 9-5pm at most.

J

yeah im here 9 till 5 only. I'm doing cell culture so it takes a few hours at the most for me to do that. I'm waiting to start some other work but I can't do that till the 15th march!

R

yes i'm doing cell culture too. Cells take a while to grow, so have to wait!

J

i feel under pressure to report results already. it doesnt help that one of our competitors has just published in nature *bum*

Hmm, my cells grow too fast- can't get them to bloody stop cycling. Got to split them 1/10 every tree days ...... anyway, I'm at the end of my three years (well, they'll be over on the 6 march) and I'm struggeling to get all that nice data together to make a nice PhD. I've got just about enough to submitt soon, but it's just a bit dissapointing to have not got that much out of the three years.

Which reminds me- do you now have a pet, DanB? Still got some Hamster & Mouse cells you could have....
