Something like Endnote for Linux

E

I see that everyone here recommends Endnote. However, I use Linux, and so can use Endnote. Can anyone recommend anything for Linux ? Thanks in advance !

B

Try latex. You will never regret it :)

Someone I know who uses Linux promotes Zetoc all the time. He loves it. It's freeware too. (It does also work on Windows and Mac, I believe)

Hang on I made that up. I'll be back when I've checked my references, sorry!

Hi etenalvoyageur

You can use bibtex if you are using Latex.

Kbib and Kbibtex will help you manage your references. What distro do u use?

Also Jabref works well together with LaTeX, it has a nice graphical user interface.

jabref.sourceforge.net/

You can download all kinds of packages for LaTeX for using non-latin characters, it's easily done, best is to google for it, I'd say (or search in the software package manager of your linux-distribution). (Distribution: e.g. Ubuntu, RedHat, Debian, SuSE etc.)

Hi,

Distro = Distribution

Do you use Linux at home, work or both? I am using Pardus Linux, it is an easy and a friendly distro.

I submitted my PhD thesis a few weeks ago, and used Kile + Latex + Kbib all the way, they are great, give them a try.

If you prefer a WYSIWYG editor for latex go for Lyx.

E

I use Ubuntu at home.

The LaTex template for PhD thesis can be found here:

I used www.citeulike.org for my dissertation and am now using it for my PhD. I find it really good to use, you can add a bookmark to post all the details of papers from their summary pages on supported sites (amc, ieee, springerlink etc), and you can export your list of references as BiBTex ready for use in LaTeX. Oh and being a website I'm guessing it'll work on Linux 8-)
