Sting! Elizabethan Loot Music?

P

Surely my ears are deceiving me? Say it isn't so.
Has anyone else had the misfortune to hear any of this new musical adventure.....

I suppose I must mean lute? Anyway I have just heard a track on classic fm & it is horrible.
I love early Police , but Sting is a tw@t in my opinion. I know he means well with all his trantric veggie gubbins, but it gets on my nerves when popstarts start meddlin' in politics and development issues on a very surface level, with out any real knowledge of the issue.

Whatever next, Simon Le Bon on his Mandolin?

A

I like Sting, he writes great lyrics

I read a press article about that just last week. Can't remember the name of the newspaper or magazine though...

He has just recorded some of John Downland's songs and has been assisted by a Classical-trained luthist from Bosnia (I think). In the interview he commented that Downland's songs are just like 3-minute pop songs and that's why he felt confident about recording them.

Roxanne has a special place in my heart. When I was an undergrad ( now over a decade ago ) we used to play a drinking game in our local. Every time he sang Roxanne you had to take a glug of your drink & put it back down. The song gets faster and faster and there is one point where it builds to a crescendo where he sings her name over and over really fast. Its almost impossible to put your drink on the table. Needless to say people used to spill drinks down themselves or miss their mouths. It was very funny at the time.
