I am studying chemical engineering with applied chemistry and i want to do some sort of postgraduate studies, however i cannot decide whether a masters or a phd or indeed industrial experience is more beneficial.

Only you can answer this - think what type of career you want and then ask someone in that type of position how best to get there. A PhD will lead to such different career path to an MSc. it is important to get it right. Do your research.
