Top 20% PhD student

G

Hello, I am masters student who wants to apply for PhD. I am international student. I wanted to apply for a scholarship in which I would have to be in the top 20%. Can somebody explain this. Is it top 20% of people from my area of research or people from my country who have applied. Thanks

G

No usually they mean you passed in the top 20 % of your graduaing batch. Plus usually they expect a first class also. Are you refering to the Dorothy H Post Grad Schols?????

G

Yes Dev, I am refering to the DHPA Scholarship. May be I will apply next year but wanted to find out about it. How will they know if you are in the top 20% of graduation batch if there was no rating on the reference forms?

G

Actually your supervisors usually mention that in their referance on how you compare with the others in the batch. DHPA are really competitive but since you have a MSc you definately have a chance. If you are applying for chem PhD then try EastChem from Edinuburgh also they are full funding and easier to get.

G

Try also the ORS I di and got it this year about to go in September. Even thougb it is not not full I was lucky I fot the rest from my department with 12000 for living. So they are also worth trying.

G

Dev, I have tried for ORS already and was unsuccessful. Do you know if the EastChem deadline at Edinborough has passed yet?

G

Yes the first round is over but they had mentioned that they will have another selction soon. Contact a person called Prof. Peter Tasker I don't have his email but search the dept of chemistry site and get it. He will help you I am sure

G

Thanks for you help Dev. Will let you know what happens
